The Uncomfortable Truth About Your Comfort Zone - What's Up Wednesday, June 18, 2025

ree

Recently, I've been doing a lot of reflection on creating my life and how I've gotten to where I am, but more importantly, I've been acknowledging where I hold myself back. Which is a blunt truth...we all hold ourselves back. We like to blame others, blame circumstance, blame money or maybe even our society. Regardless, it all comes down to you limiting yourself.

One fundamental way we stop everything is by our unwillingness to get uncomfortable or to go back to the basics of what we've always known. I see this both as a therapist and an Access facilitator. We are creatures of habit, and we like to do things that we know feel good. Strange enough, the things that feel good are what we've made normal. The hard part is that we all have our own flavor and prescription of normal.

How many times do you change something and then say, "I've done it again?" I know I'm consistently making those types of claims when it comes to finances. I pay off large debts and then create new ones, but function from "I'm doing the same thing again." However, it's not the same because this time around, you notice what you are doing and therefore, you have an awareness you didn't have before.

What we've got to do if we want something different in life, and if we want it quickly, is get comfortable with being uncomfortable. It's a matter of letting things unfold as they can and not allowing ourselves to get in the way. It is a lesson in control as well as trust. Because going into something different rather than normal often feels unsafe. But if you are infinitely aware, could you ever truly be unsafe?
